The first time I rode down the trench was in 2004. Was a damp morning the Friday before the race. I rode in by myself to stay out of trouble, on the crown as fast as I could. Your vision goes triple it's so rough. It's a scary tunnel, muddy rocks below you and trees around you. I eased up 10 meters from the end and heard a shout. Tafi and Backstedt were on my wheel.

...it's quite incredible, really, that roubaix continues on as so popular amongst the PRO riders...it makes a real statement about how tough these guys are...

...in america, the course would be lined w/ more lawyers than fans...

With so much technology nowadays it still impresses me that select riders will go with tubulars that are aged over a decade. Whenever I hear that todays clincher rides like a tubular I want to burst out laughing. ITs never going to happen.
