VDB: Cheeky Devil in with a shout.

1999 was his best season ever. Amazing what he did that year. Did you know that when he was in the Vuelta he just met Sarah Pinaci. After a stage that he won, he just wanted to see her but the team manager refused. He said: "OK, then I'll resign". After all the let him go. Someone of the team drove him several hours. He stayed the night, and in the early morning they drove him back to the Vuelta. That day he won the stage again!
He was one of the biggest Belgium talents, but couldn't handle the stress. Now he's busy working on his next comeback... at the Mitsubishi-Jartazi team of Jef Breakeveld.

Ah, the age of my innocence. I could re-live any of the classics from the 90's over and over again. Boogerd, Casagrande, VDB, the Lion of Flanders.

Though, anonymous, I do wonder if he went to see Pinaci or a doctor friend?

Nevermind, nevermind...

...I'd rather not know.

HUP TCHMIL!!

Thanks for the perfect x-mas morning vid to compliment my coffee and waffles.

Man, I still hold a torch for VDB... Every time I hear of a comeback, I fantasize that this may be his year. The classics (or the peleton, for that matter) will never be the same without L'enfant Terrible in the group.

The modern classics have lost their luster for me since there are no more from the class of 1999 in the group... I long for the days of Tchmil, Museeuw, Bartoli, and our boy Frank in the spring.

Racing during that time period has been completely soured by all the doping revelations.

Go Slipstream and Team High Road! Let's see humans race bikes, not chemically-enhanced robots. I want to see suffering, lead changes, bonking, etc.

I wanna see VDB come back. He deserves it!
This season, he tried to commit suicide! After a month he rode again. He rode some crits and after 10 crits or so (1 month, august), he rode Paris-Brussel: He rode in front of the peleton when they entered Brussel! He still has the potential but...

while we're at it.. as a fan....i just want to see Clinger in a good place, with his head on, and racing smart and healthy and sans dark shadow/trips to bad alleys.
lots of talented kids in the sport have a hard time getting it right... VDB is the most talented... but not the only guy working stuff out.
