...i've always had an affinity for both the fluid fausto coppi & the big power of his day, rik van steenbergen...
...the year i was born, 1949, coppi won milan-san rimo, giro d' italia, tour d' france & giro d' lombardia to name the big wins...rather impressive palmares, no ?... (coppi's brother serge split the win at paris-roubaix that same season w/ andre mahe, due to a course direction foul up...
...van steenbergen won one of his three world road championships in '49 & as a young teenager, i got to see big ric near the end of his career at a 6 day race...
